Augmented reality (AR) enhances the physical world around you through visuals, sound, and other digital special effects.

What is a QR code

A quick response (QR) code is a barcode that can be scanned by the camera on your mobile device. Once you have the Amazon AR Player app downloaded to your smartphone, you’ll use the QR code to launch AR experiences.

How do I scan a QR code

Open the camera on your mobile device and point it directly at the QR code printed on the Amazon box. When you have the Amazon AR Player app on your smartphone, the experience will automatically launch when you scan the box. If your phone doesn’t support scanning QR codes, type “amazonar.app” into your web browser.

What smartphones are compatible with the app?

More than 300 smartphones are compatible, including Apple and Android devices. Please note: the app requires Android 10, iOS 12, or later.

How do I try AR?

You’ll need an Amazon box with a QR code. If you don’t have a box with a QR code, get a virtual box here.

What if my pumpkin isn’t being detected?

Point the camera of your mobile device directly at the pumpkin drawing so the digital outline lines up with your drawing. Then, try slowly moving the camera closer and farther away from your drawing

Why does the app need access to my device?

The app needs access to your device’s camera in order to activate the AR and the photo gallery so that you can save photos from the experience.

Amazon AR accesses your camera to digitally render content to create the illusion of digital assets in the physical environment. If your device supports TrueDepth technology, the app will also use your device camera to track your facial movements to enable certain features like our selfie mode. All information processed using this technology remains on your device and is not otherwise stored, processed, or shared by Amazon.

What if I denied access to my camera and gallery?

Follow the steps below to restore these features:

For iOS users:

  1. Quit the app and open the Settings app on your phone.
  2. Tap Privacy, then Camera.
  3. Make sure the Amazon AR Player app is set to On.
  4. Go back to Privacy, then tap Photos.
  5. Make sure the Amazon AR Player app is set to Read and Write.

For Android users:

  1. Quit the app and open the Settings app on your phone.
  2. Tap Apps and Notifications
  3. Tap the Amazon AR Player app. If you can't find it, first tap See all apps or App info.
  4. Tap Permissions.
  5. Tap the permission settings, then choose Allow.
